Welcome to the Department of Radiology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The faculty and staff are dedicated to the highest quality medical imaging and patient care in an environment of outstanding educational and research opportunities.
Our radiologists provide a full range of services such as neurologic (brain and spine), head and neck, chest (pulmonary and cardiac), abdominal (gastrointestinal and genitourinary), musculoskeletal, vascular, and breast imaging. The department also offers specialized pediatric imaging. Advanced equipment for MRI/MRA, interventional MRI, CT/CTA, US, Nuclear Medicine, Diagnostic Radiology, Angiography/Intervention as well as PACS (picture archiving and communication systems) is available. Interventional neuroradiology offers state of the art services for catheter-directed stroke therapy, carotid stenting, cerebral aneurysm coiling, and intracranial/head and neck tumor and AVM embolization. Interventional radiology performs arterial and venous angioplasty and stent placement, vena caval filter insertion, tumor ablation and embolization, percutaneous biopsy, fluid and abscess drainage, percutaneous gastrostomy, dialysis access interventions, TIPS (transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt), vertebroplasty, venous access (PICCs, ports, tunneled catheters), percutaneous nephrostomy and ureteral stenting, and biliary drainage and intervention. Both interventional neuroradiology and interventional radiology have strong clinical practices with patient clinics. All departmental services are provided on an inpatient and outpatient basis at the UniversityMedicalCenter and clinics. This 700 bed facility encompasses new Adult, Critical Care, Pediatric, and Women and InfantsHospitals. The University of Mississippi is also a Level I trauma center, comprehensive cancer center, and organ transplantation facility.
The Radiology Residency Program at the University of Mississippi has a strong emphasis on education and clinical service. A solid core of high quality teachers combined with advanced equipment allows excellent training in diagnostic and interventional radiology. Fellowship programs in Musculoskeletal, Interventional, and Body Imaging are also offered. Resident and Fellow trainees are well-grounded in all of the core areas of radiology and are well-equipped to be leaders in the frontiers of both diagnostic and therapeutic radiology in the future.
Diagnostic imaging is one of the fastest growing and most robust specialities in medicine. There has been unprecedented growth and advances in the technology of imaging in the last decade. This includes already well-established anatomic imaging but also encompasses advanced imaging techniques such as metabolic imaging with PET/CT, non-invasive vascular diagnosis with CTA and MRA, as well as established and new exciting frontiers in the field of interventional radiology. Thanks for your interest and for visiting our department.
